Bidding in the Sealed Bid Auction Sale of the Stephen Crain Reference Collection of Capped Bust Half Dimes ends tonight at 8:00PM EST.  

 

Stephen collected half dimes starting in 1982. He was known to many as “Mr. Half Dime.”  He was also a long time JRCS member and Secretary of JRCS.

 

The Fixed Price List Sale portion was offered last week.  Twenty-seven of the 32 FPL Lots sold in the first 55 minutes, and by NOON the next day all 32 Lots had been sold.  Many Lots had multiple orders.

An auction benefitting the Numismatic Bibliomania Society (NBS) is being held this weekend.  I have been a member for over 30 years.  You do not have to be a member to participate in this auction sale.

 

As a sampling, here are four Lots that are of interest to collectors of early U.S. silver coinage.

Lot 27 – Federal Half Dimes 1792 to 1837 by Logan and McCloskey

 

Lot 28 – The Flowing Hair Silver Dollars of 1794 (Martin Logies / Cardinal Foundation).  Very hard to find book!

 

Lot 46 – Steve Tomkins EARLY UNITED STATES HALF DOL­LARS: VOLUME ONE, 1794–1807

A reminder about our upcoming meeting of the John Reich Collectors Society and a note about who can “attend” or participate:

 

The reminder:

The Board of Directors of the John Reich Collectors Society held its annual meeting via a Zoom video teleconference recently.  The officers of the board decided that the JRCS will host an online meeting for the general membership (and other interested parties) on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 7 PM Eastern time zone.  

 

If you would like to participate in this general meeting of the JRCS, please send an email to jrcsweb2(at)gmail.com and you should receive a link to the meeting (within 48 hours of the meeting time).

 

Among topics for this meeting, we may expect JRCS announcements on such topics as the JRCS Hall of Fame and the Jules Reiver Literary Award; a featured speaker and topic; and other discussions of member interest.

 

The JRCS will have as a goal holding quarterly video teleconference meetings, with the tentative schedule to be the third Wednesday of the months of November, February, May, and July at 7 PM Eastern time zone.  

 

The note:

As with our in-person membership meetings held at the ANA Summer shows, non-members or prospective members are welcome to attend and participate.  Just follow the procedure listed above to receive a link to the meeting (this should answer the myriad questions that JRCS Board of Directors members have received on this topic).

We will be holding our Extraordinary Half Dime Sale Part II, the sale of the Stephen Crain Reference Collection of Capped Bust Half Dimes in late August 2020.  Everyone on my Capped Bust Half Dime distribution list should have received a copy by now.  

The catalog is in PDF format, with professional photos and descriptions.  There is a Fixed Price List Catalog with 32 Lots and a Sealed Bid Auction Sale with 12 lots. 

The Fixed Price List Lots will be available for sale starting around 5:00PM EST on Sunday August 23, 2020.  

The Sealed Bid Sale auction is now open for bidding.  Bidding will close Monday August 31, 2020 at 8:00PM EST.
